Khan’s appointed chief minister in Punjab, Usman Buzdar, has been accused of widespread corruption, taking bribes and receiving money in return for making bureaucratic appointments. Even members of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, or PTI, get together have broken with the prime minister over his backing of the now outgoing Punjab chief minister. But many imagine the biggest factor in his fall has been a breakdown in relations with the chief of the army employees, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, though Mr Khan denies a rift. The prime minister appeared in Moscow, shaking hands with Vladimir Putin, on the very day that Russia invaded Ukraine.
